Spring Issue - March 29, 2010

I hope spring finds you and your animal companions HEALTHY and ENERGIZED. Laissez les bon temps roulez! (Let the good times roll!)

Spring brings out the optimist in all of us. We put the pansy pots out. We haul them back in when it snows. As Olympic Gold Medalist Apolo Anton Ohno says, no regrets.

Spring also brings out the ticks. Please check out the right-hand column - news from the EPA. Next month - reflections on living in balance with this wee species. Please enjoy this newsletter. Please stay in touch. Thank you for your friendship and support!

Newsletter - New Look - In keeping with Spring - Animal Trax News has a new look. Our favorite - The Video Corner - is back by popular demand - with a hilarious TV news story about a shoplifting Husky. Looking forward to your feedback on the new look.

This Month's Q&A - I am often asked: Do animals need to be in the same room, or near the phone, during an animal communication session? The answer is, no!

Instead of our physical ears, telepathic animal communication uses energy. With practice, it works as well as people talking in the same room.

The animals don't even need to be near the phone. Or awake. Why? Glad you asked! We are using the most ancient communication, that modern science only learned to explain recently. Non-local energy (physics) is instant across time and geography.

Clients report animals often stay close, and behave differently during and after a session. Working with animals across time zones - and oceans - I hear this feedback over and over again. Telepathic animal communication works! If an animal is asleep or receiving medication, we can still communicate with her higher consciousness.

By opening our hearts to listen to the true essence of another being, and listening with integrity, we live the whole-souled life we were born to.

Video Corner - A Siberian Husky walks into a grocery store ... and shoplifts a rawhide bone, on camera, in front of customers and staff!
Husky families especially will laugh along with this one.

Health News: EPA Investigates Safety of Spot-On Flea & Tick Products

After a reported spike in the number of dogs and cats getting sick or dying in 2008, the Environmental Protection Agency investigated whether anti-flea and tick products were the cause.

The EPA concluded that - while the products are "safe" - the labeling on these products is "inadequate" and needs to be changed. Some reactions were attributed to dosages meant for large dogs being used on small dogs, and some dog flea and tick products being misused on cats.

Here's a link to EPA website:
http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/health/ petproductseval.html

Do you use flea and tick repellants?
This is a good time to review your program with your vet. Ask how to use products safely - in light of the FDA news.

Do you have cats? This is a good time to check if your dog's spot-on is safe to use around kitties. "K-9 Advantix" for dogs is not recommended for kitty homes.

Holiday Issue - December 18, 2009
Out the window today in Saratoga the light is amazing! The sun knows how to turn the earth's heater on, in just a few short hours a day.

Inside, cats and dogs find a sunny window to snooze. Outside, sunshine is time for work and play, and most of all - getting food. The sun gives again ... light into food, the alchemy of photosynthesis.

I hope you've had a chance to put up a bird feeder, to show your children and grandchildren how to take care of the littlest ones. Every day we see chickadees, cardinals, nuthatches, pileated woodpeckers here in our little city in the country.

I love sharing time with the birds in cardinal the daylight, and the hushed work late at night, filling the feeder before a storm, before a deep freeze, to give to the birds a place they can count on.

In my travels I get to meet the best people ... you! People giving their family animals, and animals in need through foster or rescue work; giving animals a meal, a space, a voice, a person they can count on, a place they call home.

Today I'm thinking about some of the miracles I've witnessed this last year. The quiet, humble work animal loving people do without fanfare, without reality show cameras following, just the gentle purr or nicker of thanks coming back. The unsung heroes ... the loving kindness brigade.

The alchemy of the sun and the heart: Light into food, love into hope.

This holiday season, the animals thank you, and so do I, for all you do to make the world a better place, one heart at a time.

I look forward to being here for you and for your animal friends in the coming months and years. Please stay in touch, and with the miracles in your life, too.

Wishing you and yours good health and good cheer this holiday.

Peace,
Susan Hamlin

Animal Trax News - 09.15.2009

Greetings from a still, starry evening.  I really enjoyed hearing from so many of you after the last email. The circle of animal folks is a wonderful community, and I am so happy to know all of you.

News article - I am grateful for this feature article in a recent issue of Saratoga Today.
http://www.saratoga.com/today/2009/08/the-saratoga-animal-whisperer.html

Writer Yael Goldman did a great job making this work sound almost normal. : )  There's room for comments below, and thanks for supporting the work of rising young writers like Yael.

Thoroughbred Rescue - I participated in a happy story last week, a rescue of two off-track Thoroughbreds. Quick matchmaking (people in racing and out) brought the 3 year old filly Snow Bank, a great granddaughter to Secretariat, to her her new home, Peaceful Acres Horses, Inc. in Pattersonville NY.  Snowie really needed to retire, and she won the retirement lottery going to Peaceful Acres http://www.peacefulacreshorses.com/

Nanci, her mom Tippy and I drove out to Finger Lakes Race Track to pick Snowie up last Thursday.  What was supposed to be a one-filly return trip turned out to be two. Welcome, MB's Summer Bird! To see the fillies settle in to their stalls was a beautiful thing. Peaceful Acres will be grateful for your donations for feed and medical care.

Animal Trax News - February 2009

Spring is really in the air ... along with the snow today. We just offered the house plants their spring drink of fertilizer ... a yearly tradition that brings thoughts of skunk cabbage and spring greens and all good things to come.

I hope you and your animal companions are thawing out and feeling recharged, body, mind and spirit. We'll be sending our new schedule of animal communication workshops soon. Lots of news to catch up on - flower essences, energy medicine and a wonderful video this month.

Energy Medicine, Behavior & Health

I find a holistic approach to behavior can really work wonders. Loving, wise training and understanding the unique wiring of the animal is our starting point. Many of the consultations we do together go from training to the energy body where we can help re-balance from past traumas, habits and emotions. Some times we discover that pain is at the root of it, especially with horses, and after the pain is treated, the behavior is better.

The energy we people give off matters, too. Our natural human emotions, frustrations and body language often create a "feedback loop" between person and animal. This can really load the circuits and make for a high old time ... as any one who's tried to catch a horse, or kitty, knows all to well! : )

For the horses...

Heartfelt thanks for the outpouring to my email last week, asking for help passing Federal legislation to protect American horses from inhumane slaughter by offshore corporations. I received replies from all over the US and Europe, and the message has been forwarded all over. It's really moving to hear from all of you. The good news, many new people have joined up. The voices for humane change are coming together as never before! Please email me if you want any more information or to join a state calling group, and thank you for all you do.

Video of the Month..

One of the best yet.  An uplifting video of a fawn and a kitten, and the singing of Louis Armstrong. May the beauty of their friendship be carried in the hearts of all of us. What a wonderful world!

Dear Friend of Animals,

We're settling in for a long winter's nap at home in upstate NY. Welcome to new and old Animal Trax news members - it's good to know you!

A foot of snow is on the way for tomorrow. More to the south. We filled the bird feeder ahead of the storm and brought the snow shovel inside. When you grow up in Buffalo you learn about winter.

This is the season to hold your loved ones close. Especially if they're furry and give off a lot of heat!

This is an awesome time to remember that the first vistors to the new born child whose birth we celebrate this month were animals. The humility of the manger is a gentle reminder of our own simple humanity, where we can go to renew our sense of wonder and kinship with all life.

Holding the space for new life over thousands of years, the animals of the fields give us the gift of warmth, patience and deep peace ... living clean under the skies of the Winter Solstice. The soft eyes of these peaceful vegetarians will connect us to the web of life; stop and listen to their quiet stories.

May your heart be warmed with the true spirit of the season. All beings are linked in the quiet hush of winter. Know that each act of kindness you do, however small it may seem, will shine across the universe. Be safe in the snow, stay warm, and keep in touch.

Warm regards,

Susan Hamlin
